Anyone else feel this way? The unemployment rate is 10.8%, which is concerning. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I wrong here? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 5 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Boston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
