Just moved to French Lick, any tips?

First post here. Military spouse here. Median household income is $54,412, which feels on the lower side for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -French Lick sits at 112.2 per 100K. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Fairview for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- The school system scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in retail here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is better than expected. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Houston it's pretty good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Downtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
