Great question. Here's my honest take after 7 years:

The good:
- Good parks and trails
- Active community events
- Easy to meet people

The not-so-good:
- Limited public transit
- Tourist crowds

The weather took some getting used to but I actually love it now.. I'd say for retirees, Fresno is excellent. DM me if you want more details.

OK let me break this down from someone who's been here a while.

Tower District vs Old Fig: completely different vibes. Tower District is more solid with a younger crowd and nightlife. Old Fig is growing and better for couples.

Cost-wise, expect /mo minimum for anything decent in Tower District. In Old Fig you can find stuff for /mo.

The weather took some getting used to but I actually love it now.. The school system in {hood} is actually {adj}.

I'd highly recommend checking out Madera area. Downtown has improved dramatically since I first moved here.. Plus the food options around there are excellent.

Parent of two in Clovis. Schools are underrated here. People here are friendlier than I expected coming from {other}.. Would recommend visiting before deciding.

Gonna share a detailed perspective since most replies are pretty surface-level.

I'm a remote worker in Tower District. Been here since 2021. The food scene in {hood} is honestly incredible..

Neighborhood-wise, Tower District has really transformed in the past few years. Old Fig is the up-and-coming spot right now. Madera area is where I'd look if budget is a concern.

Job market for nonprofit: excellent. For tech: quiet.

I keep discovering new spots even after {yr} years.

Happy to answer questions.

I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.

I moved to Herndon from San Diego about 4 years ago. Initially I missed home a lot. But after settling in, The school system in {hood} is actually {adj}..

A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out Herndon and Old Fig for housing
- Get a car if you don't have one - transit is limited
- Try the farmers market on Saturday mornings

The biggest adjustment was housing. I've never felt unsafe walking around {hood} at night.. Overall I'd give Fresno a 9/10 for families.

I'd highly recommend checking out Southeast. Honestly the biggest downside is {downside}.. Plus the food options around there are improving.
