Is Fresno bike-friendly?

So

College student at the local college, graduating soon. Traffic has gotten noticeably worse in the past year.

Property values in Madera area went up 16% last year alone. With a population of 543,615, the city has a {city_feel}.

People here are friendlier than I expected coming from Phoenix. People here are friendlier than I expected coming from Phoenix.

Would love local perspectives.

Just to add another data point - we moved from San Francisco about 11 years ago. The food scene in {hood} is honestly incredible.. No regrets so far.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Fresno.

Background: 35, travel nurse, moved from New York 9 years ago for quality of life. Currently in Herndon.

**Housing:**
The market is solid right now. We went with Herndon because great school district. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at Woodward Park - it's pricey and the value is better.

**Work:**
marketing jobs are competitive here. I was worried coming from New York but the market is better than expected. Salary-wise, expect competitive for the cost of living.

**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 8 months were tough. Then I found my people through volunteering. Now I have a solid group. Fresno people are friendly once you break through.

**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: reasonable
- Traffic: depends entirely on your commute route
- Dining out: amazing variety
- Entertainment: plenty to do on weekends

**Would I move here again?**
I don't understand why more people don't talk about {hood}.. For families, I'd give it a 7/10.

Feel free to DM me with specific questions - happy to help fellow newcomers.

Let me give you the perspective nobody asked for but everyone needs.

I've lived in Van Ness, Woodward Park, and currently in Southeast. Each one feels like a different city honestly.

Rent comparison:
- Van Ness: /mo for a 1-bed
- Woodward Park: about /mo
- Southeast: /mo but underrated

Downtown has improved dramatically since I first moved here.. The key is finding your neighborhood. Once you do, Fresno really clicks.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Fresno.

Background: 35, family with kids, moved from Tampa 9 years ago for cost of living. Currently in Van Ness.

**Housing:**
The market is solid right now. We went with Van Ness because the price was right. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at Downtown - it's affordable and the value is better.

**Work:**
healthcare jobs are growing here. I was worried coming from Tampa but the market is solid. Salary-wise, expect about 10-15% less than coastal cities.

**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 13 months were tough. Then I found my people through a kickball league. Now I have a solid group. Fresno people are down-to-earth once you break through.

**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: about average
- Traffic: manageable if you avoid rush hour
- Dining out: decent but not world-class
- Entertainment: could be better

**Would I move here again?**
The parks system here is underrated.. For singles, I'd give it a 9/10.
