What I wish I knew before living in Friendly

I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Friendly sits at 236.8 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Would love some local perspective. Thanks in advance!

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 14 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in West for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- The cultural scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.
