Freelancing from Fruita -experience?

We have two kids and Household incomes average around $77,680 in Fruita. The unemployment rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.
