Hey everyone, It's a a small town city with about 13,578 people. With a population of 13,578, Fruita is a small town. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I wrong here? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I've lived in Highland for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- The community vibe scene is solid
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is decent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Phoenix about 1 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is average.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 11 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The dating scene is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (West) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is underrated in most areas.
