Hi all, I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $379,600 on average. The median home value here is around $379,600, which seems about average. Poverty rate is 7.0%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely improving and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (South) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is underrated in most areas.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely average and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (West) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from LA about 3 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Sunset for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- The nightlife scene is decent
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..
