I'm a remote worker and Median household income is $86,500, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $379,600 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Fruitville sits at 665.8 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.
Pros:
- Good schools
- Diverse community
- Easy commute
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options
Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- Limited dining options
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Am I overthinking this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Baltimore it's hit or miss.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Denver about 14 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 28, moved here 15 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in North and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The cost of living situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
