Moved here 8 years ago for work. Gainesville has a decent market for young professionals. The income situation is decent — median around $45,611. Rent runs about $1,214/month for a typical apartment. The social scene is hit or miss depending on the area. Would I recommend it? Absolutely..

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Respectfully disagree about the safety concerns. In my experience, it's been pretty safe in my area.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Midtown and Southside are perfectly safe.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is check out the local Facebook groups for neighborhood info. Makes a big difference.

I've lived in Maple Heights for 1 years and it's decent, has its pros and cons.
