We're a young couple and Rent is about $1,234/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 44,051 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

I work in manufacturing here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is better than expected. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely improving and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (West) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Riverside for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights
- The school system scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
