Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a college student here and Rent is about $1,234/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 44,051 people. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Thanks! People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is decent in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 15 years. Moved from Portland for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Chain restaurants dominate. And cost of living can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely tough and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2024 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've lived in Uptown for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
- The outdoor recreation scene is decent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
