Biggest downsides of living in Galion?

I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Galion sits at 186.0 per 100K. Median household income is $45,377, which feels on the lower side for the area. Poverty rate is 14.8%, which is around average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Anyone in a similar situation? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've lived in Springfield for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
- The traffic scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2021 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Came here for family and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The traffic is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Oak Park area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 5 years. Moved from Houston for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Limited shopping options. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Pine Hills area are average. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
