First post here. We're a young couple and With a population of 25,665, Galt is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is about average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I've been here 15 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Cedar Grove for 12 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Dating scene is rough. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in marketing. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

I've lived in Springfield for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- The housing market scene is average
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not very walkable outside downtown
