Worst things about Galveston nobody talks about

Longtime lurker here, The median home value here is around $294,300, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 72--F, so it's warm year-round. You can expect to pay around $1,278 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in Sunset for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The pet-friendliness scene is improving

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..
