Random thought, I'm a 43-year-old physical therapist and The median home value here is around $318,400, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $318,400 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thoughts? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Moved here from Chicago about 8 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to safety but Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Tampa it's average.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Austin it's better than expected.
