Been meaning to ask this. You can expect to pay around $1,111 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks for reading. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 4 years. Moved from Minneapolis for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is solid - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited entertainment options. And job market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is decent in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Miami about 14 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely challenging and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Sunset) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Uptown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
