Anyone else feel this way? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What would you do? The suburbs are where most families end up.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely tough and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Midtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much competitive but now it's pretty good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 13 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 4 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in retail. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2022 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Moved here from Minneapolis about 7 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to nightlife but Definitely worth checking out..
