We have two kids and Crime rate is something to consider -Garden City sits at 363.4 per 100K. With a population of 26,910, Garden City is a smaller city. It's a a smaller city city with about 26,910 people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Anyone in a similar situation? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The housing market is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Minneapolis about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I work in legal here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is pretty good. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
