Moving to Garden City with kids -good idea?

First post here. Median household income is $50,027, which feels on the lower side for the area. Average temperature is around 64--F, so the weather is moderate. Homes are going for about $194,100 on average. The unemployment rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The dating scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely decent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
