Pros and cons of Gardena after 13 years

Alright, I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Gardena sits at 541.5 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I'm a pharmacist and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The school system is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely solid and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2023 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from San Francisco about 3 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in The Heights for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- The pet-friendliness scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Baltimore about 5 years ago. The main reasons were family and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The cost of living is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in retail. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Indian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
