What I wish I knew before living in Gardendale

Longtime lurker here, I'm single, late 30s, and Median household income is $81,215, which feels pretty solid for the area. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Thoughts?

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The public transit is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Close to major attractions
- The food scene scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Phoenix it's excellent.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.
