Crime rate is something to consider -Gardnerville Ranchos sits at 132.0 per 100K. Median household income is $87,971, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,456/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What do you all think? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I'm a accountant and I've found the quality of life is solid. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Bought a house here in 2021 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- The healthcare scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 12 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 15 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is tough.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Springfield) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
