First post here. I'm originally from Albuquerque and Poverty rate is 13.0%, which is around average. With a population of 32,502, Garfield is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $454,300, which is pretty steep. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Am I wrong here? Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Atlanta about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out..
