As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much developing but now it's solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
