The good and bad of living in Garner

Born and raised here. Poverty rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 4.6%, which is about average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What would you do? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The safety is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 6 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The food scene is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
