Gary quality of life -am I missing something?

Hi all, I'm a remote worker and The unemployment rate is 6.6%, which is concerning. It's a a smaller city city with about 68,604 people. You can expect to pay around $975 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Growing food scene
- Easy commute
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Cold winters
- High property taxes
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Looking forward to hearing from you all. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
