Studio apartments in Gary -options?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm single, late 40s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Gary sits at 554.3 per 100K. Poverty rate is 29.0%, which is higher than I expected. Rent is about $975/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I overthinking this? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 5 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.
