Gastonia vs Dallas -which is better?

Curious what people think. Been living here since 2016. Homes are going for about $250,000 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,145 for rent here. It's a a smaller city city with about 81,632 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Lots of new development
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Far from major airports
- Homelessness issues downtown
There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 4 years. Moved from Charlotte for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Road conditions need improvement. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great BBQ places. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
