Hello, With a population of 81,632, Gastonia is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $1,145 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Would love some local perspective. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 15 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
