The good and bad of living in Gastonia

Longtime lurker here, The median home value here is around $250,000, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 81,632, Gastonia is a smaller city. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Let me know your thoughts. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- The healthcare scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Austin it's decent.
