Couple moving to Georgetown-Quitman County unified government from out of state
Alright, You can expect to pay around $734 for rent here. With a population of 2,092, Georgetown-Quitman County unified government is a small town. The unemployment rate is 12.4%, which is concerning. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Worth the trade-offs? The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely excellent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Riverside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The traffic is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The school system is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in construction. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much wild but now it's underrated.
