Curious what people think. I'm a remote worker and With a population of 78,803, Georgetown is a smaller city. Homes are going for about $398,600 on average. It's a a smaller city city with about 78,803 people. Household incomes average around $91,857 in Georgetown. You can expect to pay around $1,671 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.
Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
Cons:
- Cold winters
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people
- Homelessness issues downtown
The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 33, moved here 8 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Sunset and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The pet-friendliness situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from LA about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 9 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
