Crime rate is something to consider -Germantown sits at 92.0 per 100K. Median household income is $144,799, which feels pretty solid for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Worth the trade-offs? TIA! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've lived in West for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The outdoor recreation scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
