Gig Harbor is underrated, change my mind

Not sure if this has been asked before, but We have two kids and You can expect to pay around $2,097 for rent here. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Would love some local perspective. Looking forward to hearing from you all. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 57, moved here 11 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in The Heights and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The community vibe situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for singles. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..
