I'm a college student here and Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,089/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Gilbertsville sits at 99.0 per 100K. Homes are going for about $354,700 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Anyone in a similar situation? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone about the same since then.
