So, Crime rate is something to consider -Gilroy sits at 417.6 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $2,270 for rent here. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I overthinking this? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 9 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Raleigh about 9 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Houston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much wild but now it's underrated.
