Pros and cons of Gilroy after 7 years

Alright, I'm single, late 20s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Gilroy sits at 417.6 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $2,270 for rent here. It's a a smaller city city with about 58,561 people. The median home value here is around $975,800, which is pretty steep. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Raleigh it's improving.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 4 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much competitive but now it's pretty good.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in engineering here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is decent. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
