What Gilroy does better than anywhere else

OK so Should I be concerned? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I've lived in South for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- The walkability scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Chicago about 4 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is solid.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in finance. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Dallas it's solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into running, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
