Rent vs buy in Glasgow -what makes sense?

Random thought, I grew up here but left for a while. Household incomes average around $42,417 in Glasgow. The median home value here is around $147,700, which is actually reasonable. It's a a small town city with about 15,141 people. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 19.5%, which is higher than I expected. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Growing food scene
- Low crime in most areas
- Lots of new development
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Limited cultural events
- Homelessness issues downtown
What are your go-to spots? The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in legal. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Bought a house here in 2018 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The nightlife is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great BBQ places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
