I work in engineering and The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 19.5%, which is higher than I expected. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Has anyone dealt with this? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I've lived in East for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
- The walkability scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 13 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
