Just moved to Glen Ellyn, any tips?

I'm a college student here and Median household income is $133,346, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Glen Ellyn sits at 71.6 per 100K. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The food scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 1 years. Moved from Nashville for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Far from beaches/mountains. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great craft beer places. it's been a really good experience overall.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I'm a accountant and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.
