OK so I'm a college student here and Rent is about $2,347/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $248,016 in Glen Ridge. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Let me know your thoughts. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 5 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great Mediterranean places. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
