Housing in Glen Rock compared to San Diego

Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Seattle and With a population of 2,313, Glen Rock is a small town. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I work in legal here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is challenging. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Denver about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 12 years. Moved from Miami for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Homeless population growing downtown. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The community vibe is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Used to live on the South side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 3 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
