Is Glendale still affordable?

So, I'm a 46-year-old firefighter and Crime rate is something to consider — Glendale sits at 339.8 per 100K. Average temperature is around 74°F, so it's warm year-round. You can expect to pay around $1,397 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What do you all think? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The dating scene is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Midtown for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- The job market scene is tough

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The dating scene scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (South) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The safety is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..
