Top 5 things I love about Glendale

My family moved here when I was a kid. It's a a mid-size city city with about 250K people. Household incomes average around $70,139 in Glendale. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Am I wrong here?

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 40, moved here 11 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Riverside and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The weather situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $100K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in North for 4 years. Moved from San Francisco for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Bugs and humidity in summer. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been in Downtown for 5 years. Moved from San Diego for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Homeless population growing downtown. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in North for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
- The weather scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 3 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
