Hey everyone, We have two kids and Household incomes average around $65,660 in Glenrock. Rent is about $1,072/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 2,806 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Does this match your experience? Thanks! The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 30, moved here 1 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Springfield and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The healthcare situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in real estate. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 8 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Used to live on the West side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Coming from Nashville, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Boston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Uptown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- The outdoor recreation scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Riverside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
