Hi all, It's a a small town city with about 18,488 people. You can expect to pay around $1,883 for rent here. With a population of 18,488, Glenvar Heights is a small town. The unemployment rate is 2.5%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Let me know your thoughts. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely tough and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Eastside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a electrician and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Nashville about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 1 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2018 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I work in government here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Definitely worth checking out..
