Curious what people think. I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $2,027 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. With a population of 47,682, Glenview is a smaller city. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation? TIA! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much stable but now it's better than expected.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in retail. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely excellent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Miami about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
