Hey everyone, I'm a college student here and Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Worth the trade-offs?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 10 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great Vietnamese places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely tough and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Eastside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
